divan, fourth street's newest restaurant, opens monday
the paper is down and modern turkish restaurant divan will softly open this monday, june 22, at 1788 fourth street in berkeley, offering lunch to start from 11am-3pm monday-thursday, and from 10am-3pm friday-sunday.

dinner service will start in a couple of weeks; a covered side patio is also coming soon.
the new restaurant from the team behind san francisco's taksim features an airy, clean-lined interior fully redesigned inside the former pollara space, with abundant natural light, wood and elegant tile, and a stylish full bar.
for its first few weeks of opening the restaurant will focus on lunch – upscale turkish mid-day fare such as a variety of pide, kebabs, mezze, mediterranean-inspired sandwiches, roasted vegetable dishes such as kopoglu, fattoush and seasonal salads, and savory soups.

there's also an elaborate turkish breakfast for two, with fresh sesame bread, cucumber and tomato salad, marinated olives, feta, tulum, honey, jam, clotted cream, mixed nuts, dried apricots and a choice of scrambled eggs, menemen, cilbir, or omelet with either wild mushrooms or sucuk.
the beverage and bar menu will include spirits, beer, wine, and a signature white, red or sparkling house sangria. classic and creative, mediterranean-inspired cocktails might include the olive oil martini – gin washed with a touch of turkish olive oil – and the 'cappadocia,' named for a region in turkey, with tequila, rose water, pomegranate and lychee.
as we were the first to report back in march, the name 'divan,' refers to the central seating area of a turkish home, and represents hospitality.
hours for the first few weeks will be monday-thursday 11am-3pm, and friday-sunday from 10am-3pm. expect dinner service in the coming weeks.
