vanessa's bistro remains open for business on solano

new year, new hope: vanessa's bistro at 1715 solano avenue in berkeley remains open for vietnamese-french-fusion bistro dining, having been spared december closure thanks to cooperative landlords and a community of fans.

the mother-daughter duo of vanessa dang and vi nguyen are still looking for a buyer for their restaurant, but could stick around for five months or five years, depending.

hours have changed for the new year. dinner is served tuesday-saturday from 4-8:30pm. the bistro's popular happy hour runs from 4-6pm tuesday-saturday, featuring house wines, local beers, cocktails and bar snacks (green papaya salad with poached prawns, spicy battered chicken wings, noodles, crispy salt-and-pepper tofu).

the bistro first opened in 2006; a second vanessa's bistro launched in walnut creek in 2009, and also remains open.
