short and sweet - chocolate chip cookie

berkeley's new evergreen cafe, in the former bartavelle space, has enjoyed a sort of long, soft-summer opening since june, but we think it's time to bring awareness to some of the sunny cafe's amenities.
first, the stacks of fresh cookies, including this large, salt-topped sploot of buttery, chocolatey ripples (what might be called the "pan-banged" baking technique), using a chocolate chip cookie recipe perfected by owner sara's sister.
second, the highwire coffee drinks, crafted with friendly, unpretentious service.
third, all the rotating local collaborations – currently, tea from blue willow, bocadillos from the spanish table, acme breads and pastries, good luck bakery goodies. there are also gluten-free muffins and vegan grain bowls and elegant, seasonal baguette sandwiches, toasts and tartines, savory porridges, puddings (chia, bread) and parfaits, and a delicious looking persian breakfast.
evergreen cafe is open wednesday-saturday at 1621 san pablo avenue in berkeley.
