rotten city closes

there have been clues recently...and today, the e'ville eye had the scoop: rotten city pizza, on the northern stretch of hollis in emeryville, has closed after 17 years.

for emeryville residents and neighborhood professionals (of which we have been both over the years), the funky little new york-style pizza joint with the no-frills service – and prices just a touch too high to justify that attitude – was sort of an area institution.

located in a mostly industrial warehouse district near prizefighter bar (and now bottle shop), and offering slices and pies, pints and a patio, it offered a divey, easy lunch and dinner option for that part of town.

but for now, rotten city pizza at 6613 hollis street in emeryville has closed.
