help the helpers
a growing list of local food and hospitality businesses are finding ways to show support for the greater national community this week, by donating proceeds to those affected by the brutality and killings witnessed in minnesota, or by joining folks across the country on january 30, as part of a planned general strike and national shutdown.
this is not a choice everyone can make, especially a small business, so please – support their efforts, share additional spots if needed, and support those who choose to remain open. folks are recommending using cash if possible, visiting immigrant-owned businesses, and finding other ways to connect with the community.
in solidarity with friday's national shutdown and general strike ("no business as usual"), the following local venues will be closed january 30:
local industry folks donating proceeds to relief organizations helping minnesota, immigrants, their supporters and those affected (click for details):
banter wine bar/the salty pearl collab (event tonight)
prizefighter and prizefighter bottle shop
third culture bakery (via newsletter, "All profits from our Berkeley and Walnut Creek shops on January 30th, 2026 will be donated to Minnesota Immigrant Movement and La Raza Centro Legal to provide quality legal assistance for immigrant families in need in the Bay Area.")
