gioia pizza to expand on hopkins

since the northbrae bottle shop at 1590 hopkins street went dark in 2024, there has been much speculation around what might move in to replace the beloved north berkeley neighborhood business.

today, the answer was confirmed in a newsletter from the adjacent, beloved northbrae business gioia pizzeria.

"gioia pizzeria berkeley has big news!" said the emailed newsletter to customers. "after 21 years in our original hopkins street location, we have taken over the northbrae bottle shop space." 

"think of a new slice counter to sit at in the window," the note continues. "some new menu items like hot sandwiches and desserts, a designated spot to pick up whole pie orders, and beer and wine to go!"

the newsletter does not specify an opening date for the future annex space, and we anticipate weeks if not months...but will join hopkins street locals (and legions of student fans, many of whom cluster in packs around the pizza window) in a patient wait for more seating and deliciousness at the gioia berkeley counter.
