farewell ijo izakaya, welcome nagoya

north berkeley's little japanese restaurant ijo izakaya has closed. the small business located on the same north shattuck strip as masse's and saul's deli first opened in 2018, and maintained resiliency through the pandemic, providing japanese small plates, sushi and refreshment for dine-in and take-out to north berkeley locals and farmer's market visitors for seven years.

though ijo is only marked temporarily closed online, already a new family of owners is making the spot their own, cleaning and prepping for their september 1, 2025, opening of sushi restaurant nagoya.

ijo izakaya was at 1463 shattuck avenue in berkeley; if all goes to plan, family-owned nagoya sushi will open next month in the same location.
