el patio closes

update july 16, 2025: the daily californian broke the news that the el patio space has already been softly reopened as a persian cafe, courtesy next-door parent business the middle east market. look for a grand opening in september.

sorry berkeley, but easy, welcoming restaurant and bar el patio will close after service on july 4.

first opened in 2017 (it was cafe v before that), the san pablo avenue venue was the scene of countless happy hours and family-friendly get-togethers and famous for, well, its cozy, plant-filled back patio, as well as its drinks (heavy on the margaritas and mezcal) and blend of mexican and latin american food.

el patio posted the announcement on its instagram; first media to report the news was the east bay express.

el patio was located at 2065 san pablo avenue.
