east bay closures
a couple of east bay closures outside the berkeley area to note this week, one mexican, one italian.
first, though it won hearts for its homestyle cooking, local chef collaborations and pop-ups, and warm service, mia taqueria and mezcal bar has abruptly closed in oakland's jack london square. mia comida cassera was at 439 water street in oakland, and despite a lingering online presence, is permanently closed as confirmed by management.
out in danville, diners will soon lose sicilian restaurant isola osteria from the d'alo family, also behind berkeley's agrodolce osteria (and trattoria la siciliana, for those who remember the elmwood restaurant that closed in 2020). owner angelo d'alo cites family reasons for the shuttering, and says patrons – including those with gift certificates – can still find them in berkeley at agrodolce once isola has closed. isola osteria is at 100 railroad avenue in danville, and will close after service on august 30.
both restaurants first opened in early 2024.
