dera to reanimate former guerilla cafe

new dera cafe, from the same team behind berkeley's dessert 'n spice bakery and dessert shop, will open in the coming weeks at 1620 shattuck avenue in berkeley, formerly the guerilla cafe.

the word 'dera' means 'gathering' or 'gathering place' in urdu. along with chai and coffee drinks, there will be some pakistani and indian fare for breakfast and light lunch, such as egg paratha, samosas and halwa puri.

light pastries, a selection of sweets and sandwiches will also be available.

as many north berkeley locals have noticed (including the friendly tipster who first shared this news), the space is currently being refreshed to accommodate the upcoming cafe, including a new counter and seating.
