a good sandwich - ham and cheddar from of all places

stylish little market of all places, from owners joe and celia catalino, is one of the choicest food spots in berkeley – for cult condiments and pantry goods, snacks, ice creams, specialty coffee, wines, cookbooks and hot pop-ups of all kinds.
but now? classic sandwiches. not just the kind that come from hosting guest sandwich creators such as rosie's, but the market's own new little in-house sandwich program, launched yesterday.

of all places' new sandwiches showcase specialty condiments that are also available at the shop. photo credit berkeley eats.
in a mild mood, we chose black forest ham, sliced cheddar, arugula and edmond fallot dijon in a good, light mayo on an unseeded acme kaiser roll. it was satisfying in the best back-to-school way, as though fancy california parents prepared it special for a healthy eater's lunchbox. (they kinda did.)
for classic with a kick, opt for the turkey and ayoh! foods hot giardinayo; or choose that day's featured artisan cheese (rotates) dressed with locally-made b. town caramelized onion jam.
these are meant to be easy ($12 each) and grab-and-go without a wait. (unless you choose – wisely – to browse a little while you're there). look for the basket of freshly-wrapped goodies on the counter from 11:30am until sellout tues-sun.
of all places is at 1841 solano avenue in berkeley.
